Sonny Moore woke up this morning with sunshine in his eyes and must have thought to himself, “I suppose it’s time to release a new EP.” That’s right, folks, Skrillex is back with his new EP entitled “Leaving”, consisting of two new songs by the names of The Reason and Leaving, and a frequent song of his sets, Scary Bolly Dub. These songs were made available to subscribers to OWSLA’s music subscription service, The Nest. You can sign up for The Nest at https://drip.fm/owsla/releases/skrillex–leaving-ep-.
Listening to this EP, I have to say it’s not what I expect from Skrillex. This EP feels as if he remixed his own songs together into something that worked, but not something that was exceptional.
The Reason has a subtle start with something of a repetitious style. I can’t say that I dislike this song, I just wouldn’t jam out to it. It’s fun and heavy, but nothing extraordinary.
Scary Bolly Dub has been in Skrillex’s sets all fall, so finally hearing a mastered version is a fun time. It just evokes that headbanger style that Sonny loves to bring out in people, and even if it’s just old turned to new, it’s still a decent tune.
The EP wraps up with Leaving. This marks that song on every Skrillex release that goes a little softer and a little more sensual. It’s quaint and catchy. I’m sure the music video will be a fun experience.
In the end, I still love Sonny Moore for all of his musical input into my life, from From First to Last all the way up to this EP. He puts on fantastic shows. He remixes songs with the freakin’ Doors. So what is this, Sonny? If it’s a thing where you just put out music to express yourself and it makes impacts into other people’s lives, I love it. But if it’s just to make some cash and you didn’t put your heart and soul into this one, thanks for the free stream.[fap_track id="35887" layout="list" enqueue="no" button_enqueue="no"] [fap_track id="35888" layout="list" enqueue="no" button_enqueue="no"] [fap_track id="35889" layout="list" enqueue="no" button_enqueue="no"]
