Sad news came in yesterday morning that Australian DJ Ajax had been killed in a tragic traffic collision in Melbourne, Australia. According to reports, around 1 A.M. Ajax real name Adrian Thomas, darted in front of a oncoming truck, was struck and killed by the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. What makes this story even more heart wrenching is that Thomas died on his 42nd birthday.
Ajax first hit it big as part of the Modular Records electro band, Bang Gang. They released a string of hit albums, and mixed Ministry of Sound Mashed II. In 2008 He went on to start his own management and record label Sweat It Out, which inked artist such as Yolanda Be Cool (“We No Speak Americano”), Rufus and Oh Snap. Ajax was named Australia’s number one DJ twice.
Remembrances, tributes, and all around love has been pouring throughout social media sites from fans, friends, and colleague the last 24 hours remembering the iconic figure. Fellow Australian DJ Grant Smillie had nothing but joyous memories of his fallen friend.
“He was an icon for our industry and was always really positive. His energy was infectious…He had the ability to make the most underground record cool”
American DJ A-Trak also tweeted out his respects.
RIP to Ajax, my thoughts are with all the Australian homies, I can’t believe this. Such a warm and generous dude, a real leader”
Everyone at Be The Rave also send their hearts and prayers out to Ajax’s friends and family.
