No one knows much about Creaky Jackals except for one thing: they’re here to party — hard. Based out of Paris, they’ve only been present online for 13 days, but already have released a few solid tracks. Their style is unpredictable, sometimes fast and heavy, sometimes dark and melodic, but they always sound fresh.
Creaky Jackals released a teaser for their new EP today; a speaker-blowing jaunt through four new tracks. I don’t normally get revved-up over previews, but this one took me by surprise and now I’m counting down the days until the Feb. 7 release date. The EP hits hard, starting with a sub-bass heavy electro track with trap music influences, followed by a Dubstep tune with a pitched-up sample from the beautiful “Ruth Brown – I don’t know.” Ms. Brown’s soulful vocals trail off into silence, which is then cut short by what one could only describe as a full-on alien act of war; the explosion of grinding bass and distortion lasts but a few brief seconds before fading into the next track — leaving you shaken, but wanting more. The next track is a massive, glitchy bass number followed by a tamer track with an interesting drum pattern, maybe a lead-in to a big drop, maybe not. With Creaky Jackals you can never be sure.
I know I’ll be grabbing the EP next week.
